My Story

About me

I am a registered general nurse in the UK and also an overseas qualified general nurse with considerable experience in delivering high quality care to patients.

A dedicated professional with 15 years of practice in orthopaedic, post-surgical recovery, I.C.U, day care, paediatric, A&E, triage and cosmetic surgeries. In addition to my nursing experience, I also qualified and registered as a dental nurse in the UK for over 3 years. My time working across various hospital wards, seeing patients, examining them, and giving advice with regards to their medical conditions has given me a wealth of experience that I am able to transfer into many areas in life.

During the last four years of my work back home, I was a tissue viability nurse working on various types of injuries. This later persuaded me to read and research about the latest methods of wound care and treatments, further solidifying my expertise in the field and allowing me to deliver high-quality patient care.  An instance of this can be seen when a diabetic patient of mine had experienced tissue degeneration in her heel following a bone fracture. I made sure to effectively communicate the course of the treatment with the patient, explain the process she was about to undergo and visited her every day to check up on her progress and eventually after two months, she was fully healed. Being able to directly intervene and make a positive contribution to patients’ lives is one of the many reasons why I find the profession so rewarding.

After moving to the UK in 2009, I was determined to enter the healthcare profession once more. I enrolled myself in a Dental Nursing course, managing to receive my diploma despite only recently settling and not being fluent in English. Working as a qualified and registered dental nurse for over three years has allowed me to develop a better understanding of various health sectors. Whilst working as a nurse back home, I often found myself having to interpret a large number of medical English terms to patients.

In 2017, I decided to study an Interpreting and Translation course at university with a module in medical interpreting. Despite the vast contrast this degree had with the fields I had worked in prior, I overcame the hurdles I was faced with and since then have been able to draw similarities between nursing and translation. Studying this degree has enabled me to gain more confidence in the way I communicate not only with members of staff but patients alike.

As a health care worker, it is imperative to monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others. Due to my experience, I am able to effectively participate in producing this safe environment as I have been exposed to a variety of situations that have equipped me with the necessary skills to manage difficult situations.

It's safe to say that during my 15 years of caring for patients in different clinical settings, I have developed a unique collection of skills. I know firsthand how rewarding it is to be able to make a positive contribution to patients’ lives and this is what I would like to implement with Opal Skin Clinic.
